Wandsworth

A south London district within the Wandsworth London Borough is Wandsworth Town /ˈwɒnzwərθ/. From the Wandle River, which at Wandsworth enters the Thames, Wandsworth takes its name.

In Domesday Book of 1086 as Wandesorde and Wendelesorde, Wandsworth appears. It is also known as Wandsworth Town to distinguish it from the Wandsworth London Borough, and from the Metropolis' Wandsworth District and the Wandsworth Metropolitan Borough historically, which all covered areas that were larger.

The Wandsworth manor was held by son of Ansculfy, William, partly and by the Abbey of St Wandrille's partly, at the time of the Domesday Book (1086). The location of Young & Co's is between Wandsworth town centre and the river.

Compared to London as a whole, Wandsworth has a low foreign born population at 28.1%. An area of large Victorian houses bordered by the west side of Wandsworth Common is East Hill. In Wandsworth, there are several schools including Shaftesbury Park Primary School.

Also served in the Town's Southfields area by Southfields tube station is Wandsworth Town. The original of Wandsworth, dating back to the 12th century, although the present building is mostly of the 18th century, is All Saints'.

Built in 1834, against the River Thames near Wandsworth Bridge, was Wandsworth gas plant. On the eastern and western side respectively of Wandsworth Bridge's southern bridgehead, notable pubs include the Ship Inn and the Waterfront.
